OJK Targets MSME Credit Portion in 2016 to Be 20%

Jakarta | The Financial Services Authority targets that credit distribution to the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector can reach a 20% share next year.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Muliaman D. Hadad, said this is in accordance with the minimum mandatory quota for MSME credit distribution as stipulated in the regulations.

As is known, Bank Indonesia issued a regulation requiring every banking entity in the country to be involved in this segment. In Bank Indonesia Regulation (PBI) Number 14/22/PBI/2012, the central bank mandates that each banking entity gradually meet the MSME credit distribution quota of 20%.

"At the very least, the minimum must be met. We encourage it to exceed 20%," said Muliaman after inaugurating the MSME education center, consumer services & financial access, and launching the Sikapiuangmu mobile application on Tuesday (22/12/2015).

In line with this, OJK has just inaugurated the MSME education center, consumer services & financial access (PELAKU), and launched the Sikapiuangmu mobile application.

OJK Commissioner for Education and Consumer Protection, Kusumaningtuti S. Soetiono, stated that through the PELAKU education center, it is hoped that MSME players can gain easier access to bank loans.

"This is important to facilitate the low financial access of MSMEs. The credit currently provided to MSMEs only accounts for 18% of total credit," she said.

According to Indonesia's banking statistics (SPI) as of September 2015, published by OJK, MSME credit distribution was recorded at IDR 715.36 trillion, an annual increase of 9.11% from IDR 655.63 trillion. Compared to the total credit distribution in that month, MSME credit only accounted for 17.93%. (Source: bisnis.com)
