Indramayu – PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Jamkrindo) has launched an educational initiative aimed at reducing and preventing child marriages in Indramayu. The event, titled “Don’t Marry Yet", seeks to contribute to improving the quality of life for students.
Aribowo, the Secretary of Jamkrindo, stated that the quality of children's lives is a key indicator of a country's development success. To achieve sustainable development goals, one of the most effective measures is preventing child marriage to ensure children have access to education.
Through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, Jamkrindo remains committed to supporting the enhancement of quality education. As part of this initiative, Jamkrindo has partnered with PAUD Inspirasi Indonesia and the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) to educate students at SMPN 2 and SDN 2 Karangsong, Indramayu, West Java, on the importance of postponing marriage until adulthood. The event series was conducted from Thursday, June 20, 2024, to Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Aribowo emphasized that child marriage is a multidimensional issue. Factors such as poverty, social norms, economic motives, geographical conditions, lack of access to education, gender inequality, and limited access to reproductive health services and information can contribute to child marriage.
Therefore, he stated, collaboration among various stakeholders is crucial to raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of early marriage. Jamkrindo hopes that through this education, the number of child marriages can be reduced.
“Education about postponing child marriage brings significant benefits, from improved health and individual well-being, to the empowerment of women, poverty reduction, and enhanced social stability. By supporting and encouraging the delay of marriage until adulthood, it is hoped that children will have the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute positively to social and economic development,” said Aribowo.
In addition to the “Don’t Marry Yet” educational campaign, Jamkrindo also held a parenting seminar titled ‘Best Parenting Program: Educating for Mental Health in Families,’ aimed at providing parents with insights into proper child-rearing techniques.
Furthermore, to prevent bullying and sexual violence among students, Jamkrindo provided education on anti-bullying and sexual violence prevention. "These educational activities are a tangible expression of Jamkrindo's commitment to the education sector and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education, gender equality, and reducing inequalities," he added.
