Jamkrindo Continues Anti-Bullying and Sexual Violence Education for Thousands of Elementary Students

JAKARTA – Cases of bullying and sexual violence can severely impact the mental health of children, who are the future of the nation. To prevent such incidents among students, PT Jaminan Kredit Indonesia (Jamkrindo) has collaborated with PAUD Inspirasi Indonesia and the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) to provide anti-bullying and sexual violence education to 5,400 elementary school students in Jakarta.

Aribowo, Corporate Secretary of Jamkrindo, stated that this initiative is part of an ongoing program launched in 2023 and is also part of Jamkrindo's 54th-anniversary celebrations on July 1, 2024.

"This educational program is a continuous effort aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in quality education, gender equality, and reducing inequalities. Last year, we successfully reached 5,300 students, and this year, our target is 5,400. The program began at SDN Cipinang Melayu 01 Pagi and will be extended to 20 other schools," said Aribowo.

The 2024 program involves 21 elementary schools in Jakarta, aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of bullying and sexual violence while fostering a safe and inclusive educational environment.

Addressing Bullying and Violence in Schools
Lia Latifah, Commissioner of the National Commission for Child Protection, highlighted the prevalence of bullying in educational settings. She noted that bullying is not limited to peer interactions but can also occur within the broader educational ecosystem, including between educators and staff.

The rise of social media and internet usage has also given way to cyberbullying, creating new challenges in addressing this issue. Lia identified several causes of bullying and violence in schools, including insufficient supervision resources, negative peer environments, deeply ingrained bullying cultures, unclear school policies, and individual behavioral factors like revenge, aggression, or the desire for control.

“Prevention requires a holistic and integrative approach, along with commitment, consistency, cooperation, and transparency from all parties,” Lia emphasized.

She called for a collective effort from teachers, parents, government bodies, businesses, civil society, media, and the broader community to create a safe and quality educational environment.

Lia also expressed her appreciation for Jamkrindo's commitment to addressing bullying and sexual violence among students.

“We hope this program continues sustainably and delivers optimal benefits,” she said.
