Labuan Bajo, October 2022 — Indonesia Financial Group (IFG), along with its subsidiaries, has embarked on a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) activities in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, ahead of the IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon 2022, scheduled for Saturday, October 29, 2022.
Robertus Billitea, President Director of IFG, emphasized that these social initiatives are designed to be sustainable and impactful, reflecting the Creating Shared Value (CSV) principle. This approach aims to generate both economic and social value, benefiting the local community while fostering broader economic development.

The education assistance includes school renovation for elementary schools, the creation of reading parks, scholarships, and teacher certification aid.
Environmental activities include plastic waste literacy campaigns, beach clean-up movements involving local residents, provision of cleaning facilities and infrastructure, installation of waste-sorting stations, and assistance with garbage collection vehicles.
In the MSME sector, activities include entrepreneurship training and support for MSME players, MSME exhibitions, and cultural festivals.
"The IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon is our effort to drive economic growth and support the government in promoting Labuan Bajo as a Super Priority Destination (DSP). We hope the series of social activities conducted in Labuan Bajo can positively impact local economic improvement and the welfare of the surrounding community," said Robertus. On Saturday, September 24, 2022, plastic waste literacy and education activities, along with a beach clean-up at the Labuan Bajo waterfront, involved 150 participants, including PAUD (early childhood education) teachers, school students, youth organizations, and local environmental activists.
The literacy and education campaign, titled "Building a Labuan Bajo Ecosystem Based on Anti-Plastic Waste Campaigns," aimed to minimize plastic waste disposal, educate the public on managing plastic waste into economically valuable products, and encourage creative use of plastic waste. During the event, IFG also provided cleaning equipment and waste transportation assistance.
"The implementation of this CSR initiative aligns with the priority programs of the Ministry of SOEs, focusing on Education, Environment, and MSME Development. The IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon 2022 series represents a concrete collaboration by all parts of the Insurance, Guarantee, and Investment Holding under IFG to drive regional economic activity, in line with the AKHLAK core values," said Robertus.
According to the Chairperson of the IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon 2022, Fitri Istanti, the event is the first large-scale marathon held in Labuan Bajo, combining sports and tourism (sport tourism). Approximately 1,500 local, national, and international runners participated in the inaugural marathon in Labuan Bajo.
"Although it is a road race, Labuan Bajo's hilly topography makes it highly challenging, offering a memorable experience for participants," she added.
Lisa Mersin, Special Staff to the Regent of West Manggarai, expressed appreciation for IFG’s initiative. She hopes the IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon 2022 can run smoothly and become a key event to boost the local economy and the welfare of the Labuan Bajo community.
"This event is an appropriate platform to support the revival of Labuan Bajo tourism after the pandemic. The social activities conducted today are expected to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation to maximize Labuan Bajo's potential as a super-priority tourism destination," she said.
Kennedy Diaz, an environmental activist from Trash Hero Komodo, noted that cleanliness remains a challenge in Labuan Bajo as a tourist destination. The literacy and education programs represent a positive step in fostering an anti-plastic culture.
"We hope the collaboration with local communities and organizations in Labuan Bajo can be sustainable, creating significant impacts for a clean, waste-free Labuan Bajo ecosystem," he emphasized.
As part of the IFG Labuan Bajo Marathon 2022 series, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on Friday, September 23, 2022, as part of the Road to IFG Labuan initiative. Under the theme "Building a Labuan Bajo Ecosystem Based on Anti-Plastic Waste Campaigns," the FGD aimed to:
- Raise public awareness about the impact of plastic waste.
- Set an example for the community to protect the environment.
- Encourage the creation of a beautiful and clean waterfront area free from plastic waste.
One key output of the FGD was the establishment of the Labuan Bajo BISA (Clean, Beautiful, Healthy, and Safe) Community, with its board consisting of the West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi as the advisor and Kennedy Diaz as the chairman. The community will collaborate with other environmental activists to strengthen plastic waste management in Labuan Bajo.
