PT Jamkrindo (Persero) distributed 1,000 Garut Pratama taro seedlings to local MSMEs in Cibatu, Garut, on Friday, March 11, 2022. The initiative aims to support the economic recovery of communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The event was attended by PT Jamkrindo (Persero) Regional Leader IV Bandung, Dody Novarianto, Head of PUL Jamkrindo, Nenden Kania Puji Asri, Chair of Salarea Foundation, Dadan M Ramdhan, Chair of the Environmental Care Community, Koes Jay Organik Edi Kusnadi (Head of Garut Pratama Taro Cultivation), and various relevant stakeholders.
Dody emphasized that the distribution of the seedlings is part of an ongoing community economic empowerment program in Cibatu, Garut. Before distributing the 1,000 seedlings, Jamkrindo had conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Salarea Seed House on the Legok Aswi land, located on the Bandrek-Cibatu main road, Garut, West Java, earlier on Friday morning.
These activities reflect Jamkrindo’s commitment to carrying out its Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, which has been running in Garut since 2021. This program is driven by the Jamkrindo Central TJSL Team in collaboration with PT Jamkrindo’s Regional Office IV Bandung.
The distribution of the seedlings is a demonstration of Jamkrindo’s commitment to supporting MSMEs under its guidance.
“This initiative, the planting of Pratama taro seedlings for local products in Cibatu, is a new project and part of Jamkrindo’s TJSL support through the Bandung branch office,” Dody explained.
Koes Jay Organik Edi Kusnadi, the head of Garut Pratama Taro cultivation, expressed his gratitude for the 1,000 Garut Pratama taro seedlings provided by Jamkrindo.
He highlighted that cultivating Garut taro is highly profitable, noting that Garut taro is superior to Bogor taro in terms of texture. In addition, taro can be processed into various culinary products such as chips, cakes, and brownies. “Once it’s turned into flour, there are many potential products. Hopefully, it can become a staple ingredient in Garut’s culinary offerings,” Edi said.
Edi also mentioned that Jamkrindo has been instrumental in helping him develop his business through training and guidance. Looking ahead, he hopes Jamkrindo will continue to play a role in supporting BUMN initiatives for the well-being of the community.
“We also hope to strengthen food security and address food crises. Hopefully, the presence of this taro will help,” Edi added.
Before this event, Jamkrindo also participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Salarea Seed House in Legok Aswi, Bandrek-Cibatu Road, Garut, West Java, earlier on Friday morning. The groundbreaking was led by PT Jamkrindo (Persero) Regional Leader IV Bandung, Dody Novarianto.
The Seed House project is a collaboration between PT Jamkrindo (Persero)’s TJSL Team and the Salarea Foundation. The Seed House will serve as a community-based empowerment facility. In this case, the land will be used to grow coffee seedlings.
“Coffee seedlings were chosen because they have a positive impact during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Dody explained.
During this visit to Garut, Jamkrindo also visited the Salarea Waste House in Wanakerta Village, Cibatu, Garut, West Java, and two MSMEs under its guidance: Civa Leather Jackets Garut and the Salarea Roasting House.
The Salarea Roasting House is a youth-oriented coffee shop that also offers roasting services, coffee trading, and coffee training. Various products from Jamkrindo’s empowered MSMEs in the Bandung area are sold there.
“At Salarea Coffee, we have a flagship product that has been sold in the Badung area and its surroundings for the past year,” Dody said.
Dody expressed hope that Jamkrindo will continue its sustainable empowerment efforts to improve the economic welfare of the community, particularly those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. He also hopes that the TJSL initiatives supported by the Ministry of BUMN will add value to Jamkrindo in the future.
“Moreover, we hope that Jamkrindo’s TJSL efforts are also supported by the Ministry of BUMN and contribute positively to Jamkrindo’s future,” Dody concluded.
